A small clay bee for the tree, and it won't sting anybody. Wayne Village Pottery makes each ornament by hand from Maine "blue" clay dug out of their own back field. That's about as local as a Christmas ornament gets. It comes gift boxed with a raffia ribbon for hanging.

Product Overview
The potters at Wayne Village Pottery follow the tradition of the early redware potters, who worked with the same kind of clay, making handmade pottery that's useful, affordable, and decorative. Their ornaments started as a treat for their Holiday Open House. They've grown into a whole menagerie of local birds, beasts, and critters, and each one is usually inspired by an encounter the potters had during the year. This one is a bee, sculpted in dimension rather than cut flat, so it has real heft and shape on the branch, along with the small irregularities that show a person made it.
What Makes It Special
Maine's blue clay was laid down by the sea at the end of the last Ice Age, when the ocean reached far inland. Your bee is made from mud that's thousands of years old, which makes it the oldest thing on the tree. It also makes a sweet gift tag: tie it onto a present with the raffia, and the wrapping becomes a keepsake.
